In Canada: Walnut Recalls In Fear of E.coli

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has started to recall more walnuts as it issued a health hazard alert to the public of the health threats posed by possible E.coli contamination of certain packaged walnuts sold in bulk. The walnuts are imported and distributed throughout Canada by Johnvince Foods. CFIA is encouraging consumers who are unsure of eating these contaminated walnuts to contact the “place of purchase to determine if it is affected by this recall”.

Johnvince Foods is voluntarily recalling the products listed below:

No sickness related to E.coli contaminated walnuts have been reported thus far.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has notified its counterpart, the United States Food and Drug Administration of the recalls and the E.coli contamination.

The recalls began on the first of September when the list of potentially contaminated products seemed to narrow down on the walnut. This series of recalls is the second such recall of walnuts in six months.

The troublesome thing with E.coli contaminated food is that there is no strange odor or taste. Consumption of such products can lead to potentially life threatening situations after experiencing abdominal pain and bloody diarrhea.
