EA Buys PopCap

EA (Electronic Arts) spokespersons officially announced the acquirement of PopCap Games for an agreed settlement of 750 million U.S. dollars. The $750 million will come in two separate packages: $650 million in cash and $100 million in stock.

This recent addition to EA’s growing enterprise of websites, gaming and other technological assets will bring in even more well known games such as “Bejeweled”, “Plants vs Zombies” and “Feeding Frenzy” to games such as “The Sims”.

Electronic Arts on Tuesday said it has agreed to acquire casual gaming company PopCap Games to expand its portfolio of games for websites and mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets.

It is expected that EA will distribute PopCap games in more digital forms (such as smart phones, tablets and other mobile mediums) throughout more regions of the world to a total of a, according to Electronic Art’s CEO John Riccitiello, “$1 billion digital business.”

The completion of the deal will most likely be finished in August 2011.
