With The Masters in View, The Favorites Emerge

With The Masters, golf’s most prestigious tournament, beginning on April 3rd, the title is really up for grabs. Yes, Tiger Woods is making his return to golf after his sex scandal, and yes Tom Watson is playing his 37th Masters, but honestly folks, who is the real favorite? I’ve put my top five favorites in line, with number one being defending champion Angel Cabrera. Cabrera’s power game suits Augusta so well, and he has proven to be clutch in the long courses, winning the U.S Open at Oakmont in 2005 and winning the Masters last year. If Cabrera is hitting drives in the 320’s, he should be a tough man to beat. Second on my list of favorites is Jim Furyk. Furyk proved he can win of late, and maybe he’s got another major left in his tank.

Third on my list is none other than Tiger Woods. Woods can run away from any field, and he has proved it on several occasions.

If Woods can keep his eyes on the prize, he can come out a winner, so matter what’s on his mind. Fourth on my list is Steve Stricker. Stricker had a breakthrough year last year, winning several tournaments and even reaching the number one spot on the FedEx Cup standings. Stricker is an all around pure ball striker and a threat to win any major he enters. Last on my list is another perennial favorite, Phil Mickelson. Mickelson made a late charge in the final round of the Masters last year, but a water ball on the 13th hole at Amen Corner derailed his chances. The game of Mickelson boils down to two things. Composure and putting. If Mick can do both, he’s going to be atop the leaderboard.
