Curiously enough, more earthquakes hit the world. This time at Taiwan and more recently Turkey. By just looking at a map of tectonic plates and observing data, we can obviously see that there is no geological connection between the earthquakes in the Americas (Chile & Haiti) and the ones in Asia and Turkey. Obviously the only reason why many people (and some media) are puzzled over such a succession of earthquake after another is because they never gave significant attention to the majority of the earthquakes that happened in the past due to the minimal damages most of them wreaked on human populations; all this seems to have changed for now after Haiti of course.

Countries like the U.S, Mexico, Chile, Taiwan, Japan, North Korea, Phillipines, Russia, Peru, Ecuador, Singapore, New Zealand, Canada, and Thailand are located on the Ring of Fire. Hawaii, even though its volcanos are active, is not on the Ring of Fire.

Last week, an earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale hit Taiwan causing approximately 64 minor-slightly major injuries but no deaths, power supplies along with rail service was shut down throughout Taipei, the capital of Taiwan. The island country like Chile has experience with earthquakes as this island is located right on the Pacific Ring of Fire which is a “ring” shaped line of volcanic and seismic activity where more than 80% of the world’s largest and most frequent earthquakes occur. Since then, small-scale earthquakes measuring from 4.5 – 5.0 have occured at the Batan Islands of the Phillipines and Ryuku Islands of Japan. This shows only the recent Asian constant seismic activity and that these many earthquakes occuring should not be alarming at all or be used as “proof” for a doomsday scenario.

The Turkish Red Crescent, founded in the 19th century during the Ottoman Empire's existence, is by far the largest humanitarian organization in Turkey.

As for the earthquake at Ockular, Turkey the situation was entirely different for the quake survivors. Unlike the buildings in Chile and Taiwan, and more similar to the infrastructure of Haiti’s buildings, the Turkish mud-brick dwellings were easily shaken to the ground by the 6.0 earthquake [March 8th, 2010] consequently killing approximately 51 people in five villages and injuring 34 people; more than 103 aftershocks have occured, some reaching 5.6 on the Richter scale. Relief efforts have been deployed for the displaced survivors as the Turkish Red Crescent have set up tents and shelters for the people as the winter winds come in. The government of Turkey has sent other forms of aid as medical supplies, ambulances, mobile kitchens make their way 340 miles east of its capital.

Many warily wonder especially throughout their own communities off and on the Internet about the earthquakes at Haiti, Chile, Japan, Taiwan, and now Turkey. Again, there is nothing to be alarmed about except for the unfortunate death tolls and the bitter situations all surviving victims are placed into. There is absolutely no world-wide disaster coming up for us.
